I see no reason to do this other than greed.
Cutting a jersey or autograph hit or lowering the odds is one thing, those cards contain something UD had to pay extra to produce (expensive autographs and gamers). They can sort of justify some cost control there, though you'd have to wonder why prices keep going up anyway.
Why cut Young Guns? Are they not flying out of the printer just as easily as base cards are? It's basic cardboard and foil we're talking here.
If they're trying to keep Young Gun print runs low/the same but increase (and ultimately water down) overall blaster production then LOL at $54/box. I'll never buy one again.
I used to buy these blasters once in a while for a chance at the big ticket Young Guns that would be too expensive to justify buying outright. If two of them are going to run me $100+ then I'm better off just buying the singles since most of the good ones rarely even crest $100 anyway. I can buy a raw Pettersson for less than the cost of a couple blasters.
