I would love for them all to drop drastically. Over the past 7-8 years its amazing to see how much auto's and GU have dropped. Over the past 3-4 years auto's and GU have become really affordable, its great. Makes me wonder the future for these super high end products. Seems like they are destined to become extinct real soon.
Look at young players like Lecavalier, Iginla, Heatley, Spezza, Thornton, Kovalchuk etc... their auto's are easily found for $10 or less. Sure some still sell for decent money but that is out of the super high end products where the pack/box price still makes these cards affordable as singles.
And the best part of all of this? The pack/box prices continue to go up.. Yay cheer for UD lining their pockets!
Outside of a couple month window there is no value to be found in any box of cards. Everything but super low numbered GU/Autos and rookies are worthless. Why is it that a box still costs $120+ but you're only guaranteed a no named rookie and on average may get a game used card of some sort.
Don't any of you recall opening 2000-03 BAP products and actually get cards that held value and afford at least part of your money back if you decided to sell them?
What the companies have done to todays market is make everything but the high end pulls nearly worthless.
50+ goal scorers (Kovalchuk) autos for $10? Only five years ago it would have been worth ten times that..
Whats the new rage? Superlative?
Heres the con, you pay $500 for a handful of cards that won't hold their value and theres a very distinct possibility that they will be duds.
Playing scratch offs is money well spent compared to the state of todays collectibles market.
