Verified Trader,
This show and tell thread is to show basically six months worth of cards acquired that I didn't have time to scan until final exams were over. The last two cards are were my white whales which I feel so privileged to own since I never really thought I'd ever own one of them in my life time and now I have both! This thread is going to be a long one so I do apologize but I guarantee the last two cards are definitely worth it! Here it goes...
Multicolored swatch cards: I don't actively collect these on priority basis (unless for my sets) but I do like picking these up for cheap/price is right when I can:
Vintage:
Nice 2-color Howe, 3-color Patch of Hall, dual 3-color Hall/Esposito and a 2-color Maurice Richard!!
Modern:
Notable cards here are the 3-colour Phaneuf and Brule fleer jersey cards. Not really sure if I'll do the set but still nice to pick up 3-colour cards when I can from my favourite year. Also I love the Barrasso as he is depicted in a Hurricanes uniform while the swatch is a from a vintage Buffalo jersey. He only played 13 games with them so finding a Hurricanes 2-color jersey card of him I imagine is tough. Also the 2-colour Jonathan Bernier rookie threads is a tough find, I believe I have only seen two of them and I now own one!
And this one is my favorite: a Dual multicolored triple Generations Brodeur, Luongo and Lehtonen!
Also these nice stick cards, pad cards and one very eye-catching patch:
One "Shield" card of Cujo! Its actually part of a puck but still very interesting!
ROOKIES:
Some notable rookie year cards:
I was able to pick up a really nice lot of Gold cup rookies a few months back, also added a nice Reimer Cup Rookie since I have liked him since he broke into the league a few years ago. Also note that the Tyler Weimen RC is actually an error card without a serial number. Not sure what that does to the value of a 4-color patch RC but any info would be appreciated!
The Cup Gold Oscar Moller /51, Colton Gillies /249
Gold ARP: Blair Jones /49, Matt Lashoff /49, Michael Blunden /28, Josh Hennesy /36, Matt Keetley /36, Marc Mancari /25, Cody Bass /21, Fabian Brunnstrom /96 (Awesome Patch) and Marc McArdle /62.
James Reimer RC 60/199
Kari Ramo 3-color ARP Gold /31
Tyler Weimen 4-color ARP ERROR (no serial number)
I also managed to pick up some other really nice rookie year cards: Jonathan Bernier Patch /15, and a Nice Carey Price Auto to point out the best:
Insets: Not sure if I want to chase these sets yet but again, I will look at almost anything 2005-06:
Ice Rainbow Parallels /100, love the look of these:
Parkhurst Facimile Autos /100:
2005-06 UD Victory Black /5: No finds on this set but I'd really love to see what people have out there!
MY SETS:
Some of you have been following the progress of my sets so far and I try to post as often as I can, but like I said, school gets really busy throughout the school year. So here is a quick run down of the sets I am currently collecting just in case you might have something I need:
• 2005-06 UD Game jerseys (series 1 and 2) MULTICOLORED SWATCHES ONLY
• 2005-06 UD Game Patches /15 (series 1 and 2)
• 2005-06 UD Rookie Threads MULTICOLORED SWATCHES ONLY

• 2005-06 UD Beckett Promo
• 2005-06 UD High Gloss /10
• 2005-06 UD Canadian Fall Expo /10
• 2005-06 UD victory Black /5
• 1957 Topps Hockey in NM or Better (PSA 8 condition)
• Ovechkin and Crosby 2005-06 Cards or earlier
You can check out what I have accumulated so far in my photobucket here: http://s1273.photobucket.com/user/hckycdn93/library/?sort=3&page=0
Player Rookie PCs:
Being from Halifax, I enjoyed watching the Mooseheads during their championship season with Mackinnon, still the fastest player I have seen live, so I started collecting him. Nothing too serious but I still like picking up his cards now and then.
Although Mackinnon cards are great, nothing beats picking up some nice Ovechkin and Crosby Rookie year cards:
Ovechkin:
My favorite player to watch along with Joe Sakic. Incredible skill which only seems to get better as his career progresses. I believe he is now only 9 goals shy of 500 and also one of the fastest to achieve it. Say what you will about his questionable backchecks from time to time, you cannot deny his ability to put up 50 goals consistently in an era where 40 goals is a rarity. My notable pick ups here are the Beehive Gold (only copy I have ever seen!), the SP auto dual of Ovie/Phaneuf and the Fleer Auto. I remember as a kid opening these fleer packs and that was the one card I always wanted. I never did end up pulling one so I am very happy to add it to my PC. I did omit one card in particular as you will see it at the end of the show...
Crosby:
It's really sad to see how this season has gone for Crosby, weather it be coaches, line mates or Crosby himself. Not that I particularly route for him (unless he is on team Canada of course) but the Crosby vs Ovechkin match ups now aren't as fun to watch if one team is not as competitive. I do still collect his rookies though, and anything 2005-06 for that matter, as it was always my favourite year to collect and the main focus of my collection as you will see. I did not include two of my pickups here as you will see them later on in the show. notable pick ups were the 2-color fleer jersey card, the Campioni mini cards (I have all three versions), and the parkhurst facimille auto Captains card /100. If you have any additional info on the mini cards I'd love to hear it, I know next to nothing about them and it looks like they were printed in Italian or something. The interesting thing about the facsimile captains card is that at a PWCC auction in October, the number 1/100 card graded PSA 10 went for over $500 CDN!! I don't really understand why it would fetch that much but it did. Cool thing about my copy is that it is numbered 2/100 and looks like it could grade a 10 as well. I will probably send it off in the near future as well but if anyone can help me out on why the other one went so high it would be appreciated.
on to the sets....
1957 Topps
Eric Nesterenko PSA 8
Bill Dineen PSA 8
Andy Hebenton PSA 8
And my favorite one, Gump Worsley PSA 8!!
2005-06 UD Beckett Promo
I started collecting this set only about a month or so ago, I had no idea how these were distributed or packaged at first, but after asking members on this forum I learned that these were apparently packaged inside beckett magazines during the 2005-06 season. There are 200 total so it mirrors the series 1 base set without young guns, the only distinction is the big red "UD PROMO" stamp on the front of the card. I currently have 53/200 so far so if you have any please let me know!
2005 Canadian Fall Expo /10
This set mirrors series 1 with rookies, I'm still quite a ways away from finishing but here is what I have so far:
the notable in that scan was this Gaborik /10
Young Guns /10:
And the two best ones: Duncan Keith 10/10 and Brent Seabrook 5/10!!
2005-06 UD Jerseys Series 1 and 2 (MULTICOLORED ONLY)
Notable pick ups were the 3-color Raffi Torres, the 2 color Iginla (found in Hawaii of all places!), and the only 2 color copies of Ziggy Palffy and Martin Gerber I have ever come across!
2005-06 UD Patches /15 (series 1 and 2)
Huge additions with HOF players Mark Messier and Mats Sundin, really love the Oilers patch on the Messier as well!
2005-06 BGS 10 Young Guns
These cards are extremely tough to come across. I do plan on submitting some of my raw cards to beckett sometime in the near future but I would much rather spend money on an already graded BGS 10 than submitt multiple times. Here is what I have so far:
Mike Richards Population 4
Dion Phaneuf Population 4
Rene Bourque Population 4
Cam Ward Population 5
Jeff Carter Population 2!!!
R.J Umberger Population 1!!!
Ryan Getzlaf Population 6
Ryan Whitney Population 1!!!
These go along great with this future 500 goal scorer!
2005-06 UD High Glossy /10
This is quickly turning into my favourite set to collect, as I can only imagine how awesome the entire print set would look like together. Also what do you think and entire set of 487 cards would be worth? With only 10 possible sets I can't imagine one exists out there. Maybe I'm the only one crazy and patient enough to even attempt it haha, well here it is so far:
Young Guns:
TOP 4!!!
Number 4: I was fortunate enough to come across a long time "want" of mine a few months back. I was able to pick up both an unopened box of 2005-06 series 2 AND SERIES1 !! I know the 2005-06 series 1 boxes are pretty tough to find so I'm going to preserve it as such unless I come across more of them. If anyone out there has anymore unopened stuff from 2005-06 in general I'd be happy to take a look
Number 3: Having already picked up a Canadian Fall Expo /10 Duncan Keith RC, I was amazed that I was also able to pick up a High Glossy RC numbered 1/10 as well shortly after! My guess is there was a Keith Collector who decided to sell his collection. Anyway this card look absolutely amazing in person!
Number 2: As I mentioned earlier, as a kid I loved opening the 2005-06 UD Fleer packs with my brother. I wasn't a huge Crosby fan then (too much loyalty to Ovechkin at the time) but over the years I've learned to appreciate his skill sets more. I couldn't believe it when I had completed a deal to add this one to my collection, its a 2005-06 Fleer auto blue ink Sidney Crosby RC 2/25! If anyone has the Ovechkin I would love to add it too!
Number 1!!!
Number 1 on this list is actually two cards, and here they are....
Two cards I thought I would never see let alone own... 2005-06 UD High Glossy RCs /10 of Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin both graded MINT 9!!! To make it even sweeter, my Crosby is numbered 1/10!! First one ever printed!! When I first started collecting the 2005-06 High Glossy set, these two cards made me nervous to even think about acquiring. With so many big Ovechkin and Crosby collectors out there with deep pockets to compete with, I feel so blessed and amazed at the cards I have been able to amass these past few months as a university student. Huge thanks to all the members out there who I dealt with and a special thanks to bcl87 who helped me locate the last two cards and also I'd like to thank member kmitchel for helping me complete the transaction. Hope you guys enjoyed the show as much as I did and hope everyone has a great Christmas/Holidays!
