Hi,
The other day I started think abt the following question.
Who was the last Goalie to wear a Fibreglass mask? Before switching to a Bird cage mask.

One of my all time favourite masks was Michel Dion. However he played his last year in 1984-85

So I started thinking it must be Murray Bannerman. He played his last year in 1986-87.

Upon doing a bit more research I found that
Warren Skordinski played his last season in Edmonton in 1987-88

And finally I came upon Sam St. Laurent in 1989-90 with the Red Wings.
I couldn’t find an exact pic of his though didn’t see one wearing a cage mask.

Who was the last Goalie to wear a Fibreglass mask?
Id be interred in your thoughts.

Somewhat related and does not answer your question but historically significant.
Recently read "The man who changed the face of hockey - JACQUES PLANTE by Todd Denault, forward by Jean Beliveau AND there is a mention of a company founded by Plante in 1970 named Fibrosport.
Quite successful producing fiberglass masks for mass retail and a professional model in the 70s. The venture was quite successful until 1979 when Bernie Parent suffered a career ending eye injury wearing a Fibrosport mask. Soon after the company was out of business after the Parent incident.
Earlier in 1977, Gerry Desjardins also suffered an eye injury but wearing a non Fibrosport mask. These incidents came under review by the Canadian Standards Association resulting with the mask being banned from minor sports.

Matt you are correct it was Sam

I believe he retired without switching to a combo or cage - He's wearing 35 here - he wore 34 in 86-87 and 32 in 87-88 his final two seasons he wore 35.
