After hearing alot of negative comments lately,I just wanted to get back to basics. Once you hear so much negative things about the hobby, you start to turn away and get bitter. It doesn't have to be and HI is a fantastic group that share the same interests and alot of us,the same Values( Example is the help directed to Chris to help his daughter). We all respect the views of everyone but we need to ask ourselves.....Why are we here?

This post is different as it's time to share the best moments of the cardboard. Let's hear the biggest thrills to date ...best pull ,meeting your idol whatever makes you addicted to the hobby.

Best Moments........

Pulling the Crosby/6 By the letter "R" out of this years Sp Game used in front of my buddy who owns a hobby shop in town. I rarely buy wax so I'm sure he was a bit miffed when The Kane letter marks popped out of the same box.

Ordering 75 loose packs for Franchises and thinking how stupid I was as I though I got ripped off as they were searched.Turns out they weren't and I pulled a Roy Goalie Gear/Auto/10. It was one of the cards they used to attract buyers to the auction.......Wow

Meeting alot of you guys at the expo last fall. Great group and will be seeing and meeting alot of you at this years expo

So many reasons why I continue with the Hobby no matter what it's ups and downs are!!! Whatever your passion ...whether it involves Ud,Itg,Redemptions,Manufactured patches,Sticker Autos,New ,Old.......Who cares....

Let's hear it ?????

As I have yet to meet my ALL-TIME idol--it does give me pleasure watching my son interact with players. The past several years he's met several NHL guys and even his idol OVECHKIN... In today's world ;this is a bond my son and I have.
We are getting into baseball as well and enjoy going to the BUFFALO BISONS games. He is learning the ropes of getting to know the players and getting signatures....always a pleasure to see the smile when he gets a treasure.

Love about hobby...time pass with my son, great pulls ,meeting GREAT people with same interests, the passion, the chase, autographs, patches, jerseys, base cards, shields, limited logos, and on and on and on..............

DISLIKES: too many sharks...and i don't mean the San Jose sharks

You dont know what youve got till its gone.....

Im currently working in the UK after spending 2 years in Canada. What do I miss the most? Saturday mornings at the money pit.

Stop on the way down for a Tims (which I am having withdrawals from) head straight for some wax then spend the next few hours shooting the breeze with some top hockey guys (and Q);) and getting some trading done. I should point out by this time I will have been up for 9 or ten hours so I could watch the EPL games on TNS, then home for a power snooze.

Awake in time for HNIC and watch my cardboard come to life!!!!

Then sunday head to the flea to grab some more cardboard and wait until the other card store opens then repeat the previous day (exept add a sprinkle of DaHabsFan).

Its the people who make this hobby and thats why I love it!

I love it because it allows me to remember/enjoy being a fan of Forsberg even though his glory days are over. It also allows me to support my favorite players and it's cool getting nice pieces for the collection. It makes you happier when you just remember that its basically impossible to get every card of one player, so just grab what you like.

For me the hobby has become more and more about the people and less about the cards themselves. Its still the love of cardboard goodies that unites us but the sense of community on a board such as this has taken the hobby to next level for me.
I still get more pleasure from helping someone out with their collection than I do just from working on my own PC.
Why do I love the hobby, well thats a thing that changes constantly and thats probably how I keep my interest, moving from one facet to another.
We can consider ourselves lucky that the hobby is so multi-faceted, we always find something about it we like.
Dan.

The fact that it brings people together that normally wouldn't be drawn to each other, and that it stimulates fond memories of players, specific moments in their careers that I will always remember, and the positive (or sometimes heartbreakingly negative) emotions...all from a little piece of cardboard. Who would've thought?

Hightlights:

First pack of cards back in "da days" - Pro Set and 90-91 UD :) I was so exited pulling base cards of my favorite player - Pavel Bure

First pack of cards back into the hobby after a LONG (@ least 8 years) hiatus. 05-06 UD Ice, Alex Tanguay Frozen Fabrics - my first encounter with a Game Used Memorabilia card. :)

I love the hobby because:

A) I'm a passionate fan of the game.
B) Modern hockey products have so much to offer.

When I was younger I dabbled in the hobby on and off, but I couldn't find much to keep my interest. Now that cards today offer things like game-used jersey patches and hard signed autographs a sentimental collector like me can't get enough of it. I love the sport and products like this in a way really do bring you closer to the players. If it wasn't for sets like Limited Logos or Sign of The Times I still wouldn't be very interested in the hobby. I just hope the hobby continues to grow and improve the way it is now!

Some favorite moments:

- Opening my first and only box of SP Authentic this year and pulling a redemption for a Gordie Howe/Mark Messier Dual Sign of The Times, my biggest pull ever.

- Checking the mail box and seeing those glorious bubble mailers waiting for me.

- Getting to know other collectors and trading with them.

- Finding groups like the Gabby Mafia, proving that even rival collectors can work together and help each other out in a hobby that sometimes can be cutthroat.

I love it cause #1 I love hockey. Plain and simple, I love hockey. It's one of my favorite things in life. #2 cause collecting is fun. It's fun to search the net for cards and come to a site like HI and look at cards and talk about cards.

After many years away from hockey cards, I got back into collecting a few years ago when my kids started to take an interest. It is a fantastic hobby to share with them and there's nothing like seeing the thrill they get pulling a great card from a box, especially one they've been saving up for. As a family, we've never looked forward to going to the mailbox as we have over the last year or so.

I definately like the people in the hobby for the most part. The few shows that I've been to have been fun and getting Jeff (NaslundFANatic's) girlfriend to pick me an ICE box at one that had a rookie patch /10 was amusing. I would say the biggest thing is still the thrill of the pull although I'm busting less lately.

My wife and I were just talking about this in the car this morning, she asked me why I collected and I really couldnt come up with a good reason. I love it because it has been a part of my life since I bought some 91-92 score at a garage sale next to my grandparent's house 16 years ago. It is a hobby that given me happiness and anger and something for me strive for since I was young. I guess I have always been a player collector, it started with hockey and Mario Lemieux, then it went to Tom Glavine for baseball, then Damon Stoudamire, Michael ****erson, and Mike Bibby for basketball then back to hockey with Milan Hejduk. I have tried finishing different sets such as 96-97 SPx and 01-02 Mask Collection. I just love collecting and I always will.

Some of my greatest moments:
Getting my first Mario Lemieux autograph last year in a sale on here.
Pulling my first autograph ever of Eddie Jones from a box of Topps
Buying my first box of hockey and getting a Roy bobblehead and a dual Hejduk jersey (the start of my addiction)
Hearing my wife open a pack of 07-08 Ice and asking who Carey Price was.

I collect what I like and what I can afford. I concentrate on base sets and the complete yearly UD Series 1/2 set as well as older Topps/OPC sets. I also have a large promo/sample collection. I have absolutely no interest in jersey cards, autographs and patch cards. But I also don't care what others collect, only what I choose to, that is the key. I have enough budget to spend but sometimes it's more than others and sometimes less than others.

My sell list gets posted every now and again and only a few people even respond. The last time I removed an item from my want list was in June. None of that matters to me. It's MY collection.

1) Love hockey. It starts there.
2) The chase. The chase is one of the best parts.
3) I love the art of the deal. Haggling, wheeling, dealing...it's great fun.

Great show guys so far. It just goes to show ,the good far outweighs the bad. Keep it going...........

For me also its the love of hockey and the way the cards add to that. I like the cards so much that even though I have lay off card purchases for awhille, I'm still enjoying looking at other peoples cards here on this site. :)

:laugh::laugh::laugh: gave me a good chuckle :laugh::laugh::laugh:

For me it started with randomly searching up Naslund on ebay. I then see a hockey card with what appears to be a piece of his jersey on the card! Needless to say I now have over 100 feedback.....

Best Memories -

1. Cracking open packs and pulling base/inserts of either Naslund, Edler, Current Canucks, Gretzky.
2. Purchasing my first graded Gretzky OPC RC from HI
3. Being able to interact with people who share the same passion for the sport and hobby as I do.
4. It's always nice to open up the mailbox and see a bubble mailer with my name on it!
5. Pulling Crosby's YG a year after from a pack of retail!

I love hockey and I've always been a collector at heart, so it just comes naturally. I love the chase too.
