Keep er clean guys. enjoying the commentary.. kind of nice actually to see so much passion.. GO CDN TEAMS

If Stone misses any time because of a "microfracture", then he should just give up hockey now, because that's about the equivalent of a hangnail. And before any of you start clamoring about it being a broken wrist, it's not. It's a minute, tiny crack in the bone which doesn't even go all the way through. I received a micro fracture in my forearm earlier this season from a slapshot in my warmup that hit me between my blocker and arm protection, and not only did I not miss any subsequent games, I played the full game that I was hurt in. Did it hurt? Yes. Did it swell? Yes. Was it enough to stop me from playing nets for any length of time? Nope. I've had paper cuts that were more distracting in the long run.

However I am curious about the ligament damage. I'm not sure how the axe swing could have caused ligament damage. It may have caused bruising and some pain, but as Cory alluded to, any tear or stretching would be more a result of his deciding to continue playing without having it properly assessed.

Needless to say, I think this makes the Sens organization look panicked already. As mentioned earlier, their play in Game 1 was cause for worry, and the score was much closer than it should have been. The comments to the media, and requests from the guys in charge to suspend PK, reek of desperation to get one of the Habs most potent weapons off the ice. After all, a team missing their top forward, and top defenseman, and thusly their two top scorers of the regular season (PK was tied with Plekanec for 2nd in points), is a lot less daunting of a task than a team that is healthy.

Assuming the ligament damage is just somebody crying wolf, I expect Stone to be back on the ice in short order. And I hope the teams just go back to playing good hockey without all the sideshow antics.

Not all micro-fractures are the same. I used to play football when I was younger and suffered a micro-fracture of the wrist as well as some ligament damage, just like Mark Stone. It was honestly one of the most painful injuries I've ever had. I could not move my hand at all without a lot of pain, and the mere stress from supporting the weight of my hand caused serious pain and discomfort as well. I've broken many bones, suffered many concussions, dislocated ribs, etc. The wrist injury was the most painful aside from blowing out my ACL, MCL, and meniscus all at once (not recommended to anyone)

Micro-fractures can be similar to yours, in which there is pain and discomfort but it can be fine days later. They can also be much larger issues, especially in the wrist where there are some 20+ little bones.

Rob. When did you become a Doctor of Medicine? Was it recently? If I truly did miss it, congratulations!!!

Was it from the same school that Mark Recchi went to?

:D

It amazes me the varying comments you get about a hockey play. Here's my take that you can rip to shreds (and remember, I had no problem with the Chara hit on Pacioretty)

1. The puck not being around is irrelevant. The puck was at the point and could have been sent towards the net as Stone was crossing in front. Any defenseman is going to try to disrupt that player when he sees him.

2. There are two reasons to bring your hands together on the stick. a) to deliver a vicious slash, and b) to extend your reach. Considering the slash was not as hard as it could be I tend to think he was trying to make sure he could reach Stone's hands/forearm/arm to disrupt any pass reception or tip of a shot. So I don't think it was an attempt to injure, but it was definitely reckless and deserving of the 5 and a game penalty.

3. I don't know why Stone kept leaving the game. They mentioned an equipment problem at one point.

4. If he were truly "injured" and not just in severe pain. He should not have been on the ice. And if his shot was hampered in any way he shouldn't have been on in the final minute or scrumming at the end.

5. I don't think Stone embellished and think he showed a lot of toughness to continue in the game. I put it on the coaches and doctors though if he shouldn't have been out there. And it's anyone's call whether he aggravated the initial slash in his subsequent time on the ice.

6. I think the NHL got the call right as well.

7. Stone will play tonight, I would bet on it.

Patioretty is dressed, Stone is dressed, Neil is a scratch. LETS GET READY TO RUMBLE!!!!!

I'll ignore all the snarky comments.....and I stand corrected to Cygnusx. I can only speak from my own experience, which was nothing more than an initial burst of pain, then degraded into a throbbing ache.

That being said, Im not surprised Stone is in the lineup......let's see a good clean game. It's a shame that two entertaining teams have to meet in the first round, and both of them are Canadian. And before accuses me of being a Habs homer, I actually picked the Sens to knock out the Habs in this series. I still stand by that assessment. I expect Stone and Hammond and Hoffman to be back to normal in short order.

This was far from a major incident. There are multiple slash as bad as or worse each game. Stone acted like he was shot seriously dude. Was it a penalty yes, was it stupid yes, are Ottawa management overreacting yes, will a slash happen again yes multiple times tonight. Stone played pretty well last night for how big a deal was made out of this.

This one is done, lets move on to the next gdt.
