Lowe has screwed the league for the next few years. Every average to above average player is gonna want "Penner" money.

Why settle for Penner type money when you can get "Hartnell" money and a sixth year on your deal? Furthermore, if you happen to be a marginal NHL player that can barely hold a spot on an NHL roster, then you tell the GM of your respective team that unless he ponies up, you will sign with the Calgary Flames for "Cory Sarich" money.

People are acting as though this Penner deal is the worst contract ever signed, it's not even the worst contract signed in the past 30 days.

I second the Corey Sarich signing.

3.5M for a #5/6/7 d-man... forget worst signing in the past 30 days, this could be the worst signing in the history of the NHL and thats not an overstatment.

At least those guys will play.Kings signed Dan Cloutier to $3.75 mil per year or more deal after he sat out 60 games with the Nucks. Then he plays a total of 24 games(not really because he was pulled in several that he started) and wins a grand total of 6 games for the Kings. That has to be worse than those other deals. At least Kings only gave up a second round pick.
Problem is that he is still # 1 on depth chart.

Uggghhhh, don't remind me.:o

Howabout the Fedotenko signing? Roughly 3 million for a guy who scored TWO goals in the final 43 games of this past regular season while spending a good deal of time with Brad Richards centering him?

Wasn't a huge fan of the Hartnell deal, but it didn't cost the Flyers three picks either. You have to factor that into the Penner deal along with the money.

They're unprotected picks, correct? Can you imagine if the Oil tank the season and finish in the bottom five and the Ducks win the lottery? If Tavares gets his waiver to be draft elligible....ouch.

While I'm not exactly holding my breath on Tavares getting a waiver into the draft, I reserve the right to [Nelson Muntz] HA HA! [/Nelson Muntz] the Oilers should they tank. I think Brian Burke said it best when he said that given K-Lowe's track record, he expects the picks to be real good ones ;)

Patrick Breezebyhim! I guess even Bob has an off day. Why would a player who gets booed every time he touches the puck want back in?

"If it weren't for the Canadiens Benoit Brunet would have been a career AHLer"

I agree, the Hartnell deal was more of a head scratcher than the Penner deal. Heck, the BERTUZZI deal was the worst signing of this offseason!

Sarich, but the Penner Deal could wind up stinging Edmonton if they bomb in the standings this year. A lottery-pick finish could potentially land a loaded Anaheim team a Drew Doughty or Steve Stamkos.

Montreal has made a few shaky ones after the boon of getting rid of Samsanov.

Not a fan of the Hamrlik signing, not necessarily for the player but the money signed for, not a fan at all of the money that was given to Brisbois and not a big fan of the contract thrown at Markov.

At least they didn't sign the pilon Souray on for the money he ended up getting. Great for the power play, not so great to have as your d man back defending your goal.

I look at some of the signings like Bertuzzi, Penner, Harnell, and even the big boys like Drury and Briere, and just shake my head.

Oh well, it is what it is. Glad I collect vintage habs stuff, as no one currently on the team makes me want to collect them.

Ya, that 1 year 750K will be an albatross around the Habs necks for years! ;)

Kidding aside, I agree with everyone else you mentioned. Bertuzzi, Penner, Hartnell indeed. I think Sarich is an awful signing as well. Hamrliks making WAY too much. I actually like the Markov deal, I think thats pretty fair.

As for Breeze-by, I guess Gainey felt that when he lost Souray he needed someone else to be -28 :p

no question the bresbois signing is not a lot of money, i guess i would have just rather them give one of the kids playing in hamilton a look first, not like bresbois would not have been available later if they felt they needed him then.

Brisebois is a stopgap until one of their kids in Hamilton or one of their recent draft picks is ready to step into the lineup.

I do not think that Brisebois could stop gap or anything else...btw off subject a late happy b' day to ya Sprague (every time I see your avatar I say is that Eli Manning)....hope it was a good one.
