Patch forger... caught! gomaz would be proud ;)

He was there this year as well and was actually confronted by a few folks from FCB but most of the talkers shrivelled up and walked away.

Since we're on the topic might as well list his ebay ID's for everyone as well.

I stand corrected...I guess you need teeth in order to bite.

Thanks for permanently banning him from the Toronto Card Show Frank, we don't need controversy, after all hockey cards and cards in general is supposed to be fun. And that's ALL I AM GOING TO SAY.

That's just it... the one thing that really gets me about all this or anything negative that's going on in this hobby is that it defies what it's supposed to be all about (and certainly was all about at one point in time)... a fun hobby that friends and families can enjoy collecting, buying, selling, and trading along with some comraderie.

Already this hobby has become niche and isn't mainstream like it once was. Imagine how pathetic the mainstream will think the hobby is when they hear that people actually go to lengths to take out patches from cards and replace them with fake ones. When some will already think it's strange that people collect cardboard with tiny peices of fabric embedded in them, what will go through their minds when they hear stuff like this.

It's unfortunate, but I truly think the time has come for gomaz's work to be published as a guide or to be part of an online database. The sad part is that it's existence will always be a reminder of a sad reality. But hopefully it's existence will help the future of the hobby. I'm certainly supporting it.

I hear you Frank. I discussed with a couple of friends and my mother about this entire ordeal and they simply didn't understand how anyone could go so far as to make fake cards for a profit.

I agree that all of gomaz's findings should be made public somewhere. We need to remember that in every area of like there will always be these kind of scum bags that are selfish and are only looking out for themselves and themselves only..

Well, I don't know that mainstream will think any differently of what's happening...every hobby has this kind of thing. Comics and book collectors have people restoring spines, coins have people figuring how to remint coins, stamps have repairs as well. Cards have had forgeries, but those who do it simply have had to adapt to the changes in how cards have evolved.

Since the owners of the TCS have been made aware, has anyone contacted Al Sinclair for him to do his part? I know Al to say hi, but if anyone knows him better, maybe you should get his input. I doubt he would want any trouble at the Expo over this.

Saw this item in the show and tell thread and it looks eerily similar to a forge job the person in question did at a card store here in Toronto a couple of years ago. Keep your eyes open people!!

I am not trying to tell you what you can and cant do. But if you didnt ask the person to use his picture in a message like this. I wouldnt use it. Now maybe you asked. I dont know. But I know I would be mad about it.

Also I dont think you are trying to call his card fake but some people may take it that way.

I told him about the thread and he told me he bought this card from ebay. I am not that the card is fake. I am just saying that it is extremely suspicious since I have seen the exact same card, with the exact same autographs before.

Dude, it gets really annoying to see this thread being consistently bumped by you on a regular basis. I think you're trying to make a mountain out of a nothing with this autograph talk. If I remember correctly, the patch forger didn't selling phony auto's...only phony patches :owned:

Anyways, not sure if those autographs are real, but that Malkin/Crosby/Staal/Fleury are darn close. The Letang looks off though.

I don't think there's anything wrong with bumping this thread if a new development arises. I am guilty of bumping the thread earlier without any purpose, but I think this latest one is relevant.

Owner of the Kiprusoff Fake

:owned: Hi I am the Owner of the kiprusoff Premier fake 15/20 I will be at the Toronto Show Nov 13-15 At the Eastridge Hobbies Booth Pleas Come by if you want to take a look in person I will have it on display as a fake. I have examined it very closely and as near as I can figure out the patches were taken out from the front. when you look at the G on the right side there is a small crease where the g meets that is the only sign of tampering I can see with a magnifying glass.
Ask to see the fake Kipper along with my extensive colection of Iginla Phaneuf and Kiprusoff cards. Along with my others.
Thanks

I saw the card in your display at The Summit and was impressed that it was noted as "Fake". See you in Toronto!

Why wouldn't he? Randy's as solid as they come. Unlike, say, the dirtbag who elected to bilk people.

Maybe the "dirt bag who decided to bilk people" will show up at the expo, the guy has no shame, glad somebody brought this thread back to life from the dead.

He's been at all past expos. It'll be interesting to see if he's got the stones to look his fellows in the eye.

it is very interesting to read about for sure. It is great for the Hobby to have people as such Bruce and Jeremy who are doing so much to bring awareness to everyone.

Having said that I am so tired of hearing about these patch fakers being discovered but not being made to face the music. I am just disenchanted and disheartened by the fact that they do not face any serious persecutions. For once I would like to hear that they have been nabbed by the FBI and made to pay a serious fine...serious as in like $10,000 plus.

Until this happens I don't think there is much deterrent for patch fakers to stop.
I guess the authorities have bigger fish to catch (ie. Diamond Smugglers, murderers, coke dealers, etc.) then to worry about our little hobby.
