Henderson 1972 Summit Series game worn jersey up for auction

I'm gonna be really unpopular with my opinion here (and yes I am Canadian), but I'm really sick and tired of hearing about that damn goal.

Yes, it was an interesting time in the World of Sports as there was huge political tension between the East and West, but it was one deciding goal in a series Canada was suppose to win. It wasn't Miracle on Ice. It was scored by a Canadian. Oh wait, now that's important. A big goal has never been scored by a Canadian player.

Last time I checked it was the Hockey Hall of Fame, not the Canadian Cultural Bonanza. It would be like throwing Bruno Jerussi in the Hockey HOF if he'd ever done an episode of the Beachcombers where the water froze over and he played a hockey game against Relic and beat him. Let's put his lumberjacket in the Hockey HOF. He's a National treasure. And he scored a big goal.

Every time I hear Canadians emotionally orgasm (can I say that word on here) over that goal and Henderson, I feel like Canadians are so bush and that their entire cultural identify consists of hockey, beer and bad Canadian singers. Thank goodness for real stars like Steve Nash & Justin Morneau who while they get overlooked by Canada, are appreciated South of the Border.

Am I on an island with this thinking?!

For the record.

I am interested in buying this jersey for my personal collection.

I would not be cut and used in my products and I would consider loaning it to the Hockey Hall of Fame so that the Canadian public could enjoy it.

That's for the record. If the price get's too high, I will not chase it.

This would be a tremendous addition to an already impressive collection, good luck!

Also glad to hear it would be safe from the scissors ;)

That would also be a very cool way to get In The Game "In The Hall of Fame". Good luck Brian...just the surface of what I've seen of your collection so far STILL has my head spinning. This would be quite the addition.

I'm gonna say that your island isn't all that densely populated.

The goal is about more than the goal when you put it in its' proper perspective. The Summit Series was the classic Us vs Them showdown... The Western World vs Communism and Mother Russia. You get the idea.

The hole they dug themselves in during the 4 games in Canada, and they way they turned it around in games 5-8 is the real story - overcoming adversity against the other hockey superpower at the time.

"The Goal" is symbolic of so much more than just banging in a rebound. There's decades of history that happen in games between Canada and Russia that are the backstory to that goal, and that Series.

And as for your bolded comment above... speaking from my experience, I've lived and/or worked in 9 of the 10 Canadian provinces. And I can say with a great deal of confidence that your statement couldn't be further from the truth.

Well crafted response.

Thanks for sharing your viewpoint (without slinging mud). I was being a bit tongue & cheek on my post, glad u didnt take it for much more than that. Just having fun with a bit of Canadiana.

BTW, I could see a guy like Todd McFarlane (sp?) buying it.

What a completely unnecessary comment

I may be an idiot here, but I am not even sure what that comment refers to. Maybe it's the couple beers I had that are slowing me down, but I don't get the designer comment whatsoever. Got an explanation?

from what I gather, he's bascially taking a jab at Dr. P and saying that his products lack nice designs (which I disagree with) completely unnecessary and irrelevant to the topic.

Update on this....looks like the Canadian government is getting involved.

For those of you who say "this NEEDS to be in the HHOF", this is likely the ONLY way it'll stay permanently there... who else would drop $400,000 on this and donate it? Sure, I'd like to think people are generous here... but I doubt any of us would step up with THAT sort of generosity.

Brian, if you win it... I will applaud you for your generosity in lending it to the HHOF. Obviously it would be well cared-for, and admired for years to come. However... before you donate it... send it out to me for a week to gawk over, will ya? ;)

B.

There is a difference between loan and donate.

With a donation, the HHOF now owns the jersey. With a loan, you own it and the HHOF can display it.

At any time you can remove it to display it yourself of do whatever you want with it.

My goal would be to "loan" it to the Hall for a period of time so that people could view it.

Looks like I might not get a chance or I would be bidding against the government who is bidding with our tax money.

It will be interesting to see what happens.

I was kinda thinking that, but wasn't sure if it was a jab at his cards or his wardrobe!! LOL. Thanks for the explantion.

It's already caught the attention of some people in our office, but I can promise you this would never be cut up under my watch. Hope the heritage ministry comes through so that everyone will have a chance to appreciate it and its place in hockey history.

I wonder if Vladislav and Vyacheslav are planning a bonfire on the Red Square some time during the summer...

LOL.

Imagine one of those Russia Oil tycoons buying it (like they do soccer franchises) and using it as a dart-board in their office.

Doh!!
