I'm gonna be really unpopular with my opinion here (and yes I am Canadian), but I'm really sick and tired of hearing about that damn goal.
Yes, it was an interesting time in the World of Sports as there was huge political tension between the East and West, but it was one deciding goal in a series Canada was suppose to win. It wasn't Miracle on Ice. It was scored by a Canadian. Oh wait, now that's important. A big goal has never been scored by a Canadian player.
Last time I checked it was the Hockey Hall of Fame, not the Canadian Cultural Bonanza. It would be like throwing Bruno Jerussi in the Hockey HOF if he'd ever done an episode of the Beachcombers where the water froze over and he played a hockey game against Relic and beat him. Let's put his lumberjacket in the Hockey HOF. He's a National treasure. And he scored a big goal.
Every time I hear Canadians emotionally orgasm (can I say that word on here) over that goal and Henderson, I feel like Canadians are so bush and that their entire cultural identify consists of hockey, beer and bad Canadian singers. Thank goodness for real stars like Steve Nash & Justin Morneau who while they get overlooked by Canada, are appreciated South of the Border.
Am I on an island with this thinking?!
