I do like the looks of Hackett and that prospect. Buffalo is thin on center so that Sweden guy should help, they need another goalie since Miller will probably be traded in the offseason it looks like, plus they have four picks in the first two rounds. Not to mention, they shed some serious salary in the past few days. I'm happy with it all.
 
I was hoping that the Canucks would trade Luongo, more because I think he deserves better than the moron "fans" ragging on him for inexplicable reasons. His candor during his press conference was at once refreshing and painful as he just wants to be in a different situation. I hope for his sake the Canucks move him during the summer. And I hope he thrives in his new environment.
 
Loungo exemplified pure class as he has done throughout this entir process.

Unfortunately for him and th Canucks...this has all happened in the middle of a major change in the NHL and they way they view goalies. I believe it was Harry Sinden than said "goaltending is 90% of the game, unless you don't have it, then it's 100%". Which was likely true. However in today's game it seems that goaltending is the NHL equivalent of a running back...there are a ton of decent ones out there so there is no real need to break the bank to get one.

Obviously there are a handful that are above the norm however, in this day and age, it is almost impossible for anyone to legitimately tell you who are the top three goalies in the league. We can all argue and postulate but in the end it is really close and changes every year....maybe the position is closer to a closer in MLB.

Anyway...now a days it seems as if there are 35 goalies for the 30 teams which is a complete culture shift....and unfortunately for bobby Lou and the nucks, it means that trades are going to be tough to come by.
 
So, if you are the Flames, do you sit Kipper's butt on the bench for the rest of the season?

This is a guy who has basically said he would not waive his NTC (and he was within his right to do so) and has also said he is retiring at the end of the season (oh, and why are the Flames not being investigated for cap manipulation on that one?).

Sounds to me like someone who just doesn't really give a rat's behind anymore.
 
sad to see gabby leave the rangers for me, i enjoyed watching him here in NY for the past few years. I hope he does well in Columbus

The musical chair game continues, what makes Philly think Mason will be any better than these other guys they got? If they were smart they would make a trade for Ryan Miller in the offseason. They have plenty of guys to move.

Why would they trade for an aging goalie who is on the backside of his career? They need a young guy with potential that they can develop behind Bryzgalov (who is exactly the same age as Miller). Mason is that guy, and he'll come cheaply, a lot cheaper than a past-his-prime Miller.

Yes, to fill an even more pressing need by stockpiling draft picks.

Let's face it, at the time he was dealt, anybody that thought Bobrovsky would even remotely play as well as he's done so far for CBJ is an outright liar. Flyer fans ran him right out of town because there is no fanbase in the league that is tougher on their goaltenders than Philly fans. They could have Martin Brodeur in his prime, splitting duties with Patrick Roy, and some of them would still be unhappy. That's why Hextall was so successful....you'd have to be bats**t crazy to play nets for that franchise.

All the more reason not to trade for a kid who has obviously lost his confidence. How the heck can he get it back playing in the goalie graveyard?

Yea I wouldn't want to play there, so much pressure, especially since they haven't had a good goalie in a decade or longer it seems.

Well you do kind of have to have some sort of backup plan. I'm sure the Flyers franchise doesn't see the things the way we do, and they probably figure a change of scenery and some new coaching is all he needs. What will likely end up happening is he'll be dealt or buried in the minors inside of 2 years.

Their real problem isn't netminding...it's defense. They need somebody to replace Pronger and what he brought to the table. A kid like Seth Jones would be a gamechanger for that franchise.

Agreed. The last place I'd want to be as a goaltender is Philly. And to answer your earlier question, Bobrovsky actually showed promise in his rookie season. Sure he had a sophomore slump but that defense was brutal. I think they gave up on him way too quickly

He sure did. Unfortunately, so did Roman Chechmanek and Tommy Soderstrom. They probably thought it was deja vu :)
