Carlyle fired

Oilers should grab him right away. I am surprised the Oilers didn't grab Maclean when the Sens fired him, might be a good fit in TO.

I can't say I am upset over it. Not sure that any coach will get this team to be a potential cup contender, just way to many weak areas. Money spent on the wrong players, system in place that don't fit the players. Hopefully a new coach will find a system more suited for under achieving over paid players lol. He is a solid coach but you only get so much time, the team is to hot and cold and fans are finally becoming impatient and wanting results more than winning the fight. Nonis will likely be next. I find it interesting that the DD mentions "Dreger reports all Leaf players are now potential trade targets as the team moves forward." I wonder if they will try and move Kessel, Clarkson and Phaneuf? Might be tough with their contracts but stranger contracts have gotten moved out of TO.

You're surprised the Oilers didn't make a right decision? lol!

That's assuming the coaches want to coach there or to go into a management structure like the Oilers.

You'll have to try to undo what's been done within the constraints of ownership and management.

trade phaneuf next.

This has already been discussed with a few buddies (who are Leaf fans). The consensus was:

Try to find a team willing to take that cap hit for the next 6 years (after this one). Even my buddies who are Leaf fans kind of admit the Leafs will have to retain a lot of cap, maybe even the maximum amount. Hell, couple of them even went so far as the say the Leafs would have to sweeten the deal even with cap retention.

Yes, everyone knows what I think of Phaneuf, but when Leaf fans are saying the same thing...

Stranger things have happened though. Remember the UNTRADABLE Luongo contract?

Not surprised by the firing, but it just seems as though they do not have the roster to play smart in their own zone, no matter who is sending the message behind the bench.

Long time coming. Nonis is next to go once the season is over. I also think at minimum two of the core players will be gone by the start of next season. I'm thinking Bozak and Lupul for sure with maybe one or two more.

The fact Lupul is a core player on this team is part of the problem. Lupul, Phaneuf, Kessel, JVR are all good bits to add to a team. They should not be the core however due to different reasons (inconsistent play, injury prone, mistake prone, etc.)

Trying to build up from these guys toward a contender is like deciding to build your house on mud. No matter how much work you put into it, it just keeps sinking, and if you ever get it finished, it has a ton of problems.

We've all seen the movie, the 4th castle will stand :D

Whatever make the team worse is what's best for the Franchise. Let's face it....Kessel and Phaneuf as the faces of the franchise are not working. Let's blow it up and draft well. And high.I'm frustrated with the extreme winning and losing and finish either just outside a playoff spot or God forbid we squeak in . We are not a cup team now and our foundation is way too Shakey. No one should be safe....

Peter Horachek named interim head coach

At least Phaneuf seems to care and gives 100%. Unfortunately he was put in a postion where he would fail, he is not a true number 1 maybe not even a number 2. At least he does his best which isn't good enough to equal wins due to the ice time he logs and the other teams top players he plays against each night. I wouldn't mind Phaneuf as a 2nd line D making around 4 million a season. Kessel is just a selfish player who only wants the glory of scoring and could care less about the teams success if he has to do any work outside of shooting the puck. He is as tough as a wet paper bag, it embarrassses me as a fan to see how scared he is in the corners and how he backes off at the first sign of any physical play. When you are the highest paid player you should play like the best player and lead by example. I would love for them to move him to free up cap space and get a different player(s). Sure his goal scoring will be tough to replace but if you get a solid 20 goal scorer who plays 2 way hockey it would likely negate the 10 extra goals against in =/-.

Until the Leafs move Kessel, Phanuef, Clarkson and Lupul they will not win. Way too much cap space tied up in deadwood that underachieves for the money they make and the roles expected for top money guys. I am still not sold on the goalies but it's hard to say since the Leaf team is so horrible in their own end.

Carlyle leaving was a no-brainer with the coaches out there looking for work. Shanny will bring in somebody great Im sure. I gotta say tho... IT MAKES ME SICK WITH HOW THE MEDIA AND FANS ARE ROASTING KESSEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is 1 of your two players (Van Riemsdyk) that are actually producing on a regular basis!!!!! They are doing their job, pick on somebody who isnt. Two guys cant win a cup, maybe, just maybe they should look at getting more depth players...but maybe its just me.
