GDT: Game 2 - Chicago @ St. Louis - April 19th.

That's harsh on Keith's part for sure. Not defending him in any way, no defending it. BUT, if you heard the stuff these guys say every night on the ice, you would be shicked(seeing as how this is shocking to you guys so far). I have heard the same type stuff and even worse from kids at the local rink, even 12-18 year olds.

If you don't believe every team has players who do stuff and say stuff like this, well.... It happens, it's very unfortunate, but you know what, it happens way more then you think and they still shake hands afterwards because every one of those guys know it happens and it is done in the heat of the moment. If they miked and recorded every player in every game and released the audio to the public, there wouldn't be many hockey fans left in the world. The stuff these guys do and say to each other is flat out disgusting at times.

Can't say I'm too surprised, I'm aware that the trash talk is nasty out there. But it's a different level when a guy is nearly KO'd after a dirty hit. I wouldn't really expect much better from Keith anyway though.

Hopefully the league sends a strong message with Seabrook's suspension, otherwise I'm afraid this series will turn even uglier.

I didn't get a chance to watch the game but I did see the hit. dirty or not, I really felt bad for backes. He got smacked hard..... I hope he alright cause I think the blues are really gonna need all key players to go further this years playoffs and backes has been great for the blues. I did watch the first game and it was one of the best playoff games I've seen. So much fun to watch this series, I'd even say so far, its the best series.

not sure if anyone picked this up but at 57 second mark you can lip read alex steen saying "show some F'ing class"......

He sure does. This series is already a tinderbox. It could explode if the league doesn't do anything. Whether it be a suspension or just telling the refs to call everything moving forward.

There is a definite hate on between these teams.

Alright - a couple of things as I have no dog in this fight.

1 - Seabrook's hit was brutal and he should be suspended. His apology was great and I fully believe him in nearly every word - I don't think he truly wanted to hurt Backes but he was certainly seeing red and let his emotions take over...it happens.

2 - Every team in the league has dirty rats (yes, even the Hawks) and every physical/tough player will have moments where his emotions take over and opponents will throw out "dirty" - name a tough physical player in this league and there are plenty of people that will swear up and down they are the dirtiest clown in the league.

3 - I could really care less what Keith said to Backes. I couldn't tell you how many times I have heard players chirp others after someone got lit up - this happens all the time. I don't think it makes Keith classless nor to I think that the Blues should let it slide - take that for what it's worth but if you've spent any time on the ice in your life you probably get it.

It will be very interesting to see what the league does with this one. In my mind, this is pretty clear cut and even if Backes had the puck at the time of the hit a suspension is warranted - no puck makes it worse for Seabrook. It's anyone's guess in the playoffs, if I had to bet I would say one game but I wouldn't be surprised if there is no suspension. Truthfully, Seabrook lost the game for his team so maybe that is punishment enough.

These guys are warriors - Steen, Backes, Seabrook, Keith, Toews, Sharp, Oshie, etc - anyone that says that game is getting soft and that the NHL has been wussified needs to tune in. This series would grind most stud athletes into pulp.

I must be in the minority because I love how this series is playing out. This is take no prisoners Playoff hockey. I can't wait for game 3!

Here is my dripping with sarcasm response. The Blose haven't won anything, yet. 2 playoff wins does not make you a winner. 15 playoff wins does not make you a winner. Do you think the Canucks consider themselves winners because they won 15 playoff games a couple seasons back? Did they raise a Stanley Cup Playoffs 15 Game Winner banner to the rafters? Don't think so.

I love how the Blose fans mysteriously appear when their team, who is the higher seed and has home ice, actually won 2 games at home. It took triple overtime in game 1 and overtime in game 2, but hey, they held serve (WHICH IS WHAT YOU'RE EXPECTED TO DO) at home in the playoffs, congrats. You'd think the Blose fans would have learned their lesson after last season where they got up 2-0 in a series, both 1 goal games at home, how did that work out for them, I forget..... Oh well, in the end, they are Blose fans, don't expect them to remember what happened a short year ago. :)

I get it, when you aren't used to seeing your team win in the playoffs, it gets your blood pumping a bit and all of a sudden you are "Winners". The golf references come out, chests puff out, the keyboard gets more use then ever before. I remember some fans being all jacked up last year and throwing out golf references and "over rated" comments when their team was up 3-1 in a series against the Hawks, I wonder how that worked out for them......

Come back when the Blose actually win a Cup, then they will be "Winners". Until then, most Hawk fans I know will always consider the guys to the south the Blose and they aren't even on the same level as Carolina, Tampa, Anaheim, etc. Those teams are considered Winners as they won the only game that matters, the 4th win in the SC Finals. End sarcasm.

your response is dwelling on past accomplishments. i was talking about the 2014 playoffs, first round, Blues vs. Blackhawks.

if the Blues happen to win it all this year, and this exact same discussion would happen to come up again, i would discuss the 2015 playoffs, not dwell on "well, we won it last year.". yeah, sure, history is great, especially when you have a few Cups under your belt, but this discussion is about NOW.

i suppose my whole point is that you Chicagoans can call them the bLOSE all you want, but if they beat your precious 'Hawks in the first round, they should be renamed the "TookYourPreciousHawksOut".

and a word of advice to all the Hawks fans that come down to STL for games, the National Anthem is respected thru silence and reverance, not by hooting and hollering during it.

This is the reason why I didn't take any Hawks or Blues in my playoff pool. This should have been the Western Conference Finals match up. These 2 teams are going to beat each other up black and blue for every inch of ice. So I can't see them lasting 4 rounds, which is too bad. I do hope the winner does surprise me though.

This is about what I would expect from most Blose fans, they learned nothing from their past playoff flops, like last year, and keep mouthing off.

I never once said anything about the Hawks winning last year when talking about the Blose. See, I don't need to, because you all bring it up for Hawk fans. :) My entire point is in the realm of "winners", the Blose aren't even close and I personally have more respect for franchises like Carolina, Tampa, Anaheim, etc.

You can pump your chest all you want, and if the Blose knock out the Hawks it won't be the first time they do that. You can have your tag line or hash tags but in the end no one is going to remember this series except Blues fans. Why? The one huge thing that most Blose fans, like yourself, always fail to realize is winning one series against the hawks means nothing in the big picture, especially if you don't go on to win the Cup. It just proves more about the "little brother" syndrome Blose fans have, beating the Hawks in a playoff series is just as good as winning the Cup. When that's all you had to look forward to all these years, we get it. Kinda like how Ottawa fans feel when they beat Toronto. Little brother finally win a game against big brother, better take pictures and get a cake, have all the family drive in and fire up the barbq, it's time for a ho down, we actually won a playoff round!!!!

Was that a good enuf sarcastic response? :) If you don't know the Hawks/Blues rivalry, it is a very heated rivalry that doesn't get as much publicity as others. Blose fans cannot stand the Hawks fans or players, and Hawks fans just kind of brush off the Blose becuz their like that third cousin you see once a year who keeps tugging at your pant leg and begging to let him play with the other big kids or sit at the big kids table. Not yet Sparky, win that 16th playoff game and then maybe we will acknowledge your existence. But, if anyone ever messed with the city of St. Louis, every "Chicagoan" I know would be on their way there to help them about, cuz that's how we see them, bitter rivals but still family and family sticks together in the end.

I don't think people understand the rivalry unless you are from the mid-west and have lived it. I don't believe anyone is being rude or derogatory whether a Blose or Hacks fan as we are known by them. It's a very real and spirited rivalry but its not like Philly/Pitt or Montreal/Toronto, at least in my opinion. If you aren't from the mid-west, I will try to give you some real life experiences as an example.

Warsaw, youre from the area so I'm sure you get it. Are you in southern IL closer to SLO? Do you have family up in the Chicago area? If the Blues win the series, it will be huge at the office and family get togethers right? And, if they win and then get bounced and don't win the Cup, you will hear "yeah well at least we beat the Hacks", right?

Anyways, here is a true story so you have some in site. Many moons ago at the first real big famy get together in Chicago where family drove and flew in from all over the US, I was probably 10 years old or so. There had to be 100+ people at my grandmothers house in Bensenville, and once everyone got there, gram pulled all the kids together and introduced them all to each other, this is how it went, no joke; this is cousin Tony from Bensenville, cousin Bobby from Elgin, cousin Anthony and Rosemary from Elmhurst, cousin Robert from Bensenville, cousin Tony from Oak Park, cousins Gene and Rose from Oak Park, cousin Anthony from Elmhurst, cousin Tony from the south side, cousin Gene from South Elgin, cousin Tony from Tampa FL, cousin Bobby from South Bend, cousins Tony and Rosemary from Chicago, cousin Robert from Fort Wayne IN, cousin Anthony from Champaign, cousins Gene and Milly from Chicago, and this is your fourth cousin on Grampas side Leonard from St. Loui Missouri. Now you kids be nice to little Lenny and let him play.

Well, all the IL and IN cousins were immediately on the same page, Leonard was always "it" in keep away, he always had to count and find us in hide & seek, he was always right fielder in baseball, Leonard was "that kid", the outsider you picked on, always last to get food, didnt get any cake until the other cousins had theirs, etc. he didnt care though, he was just happy to be "included", kids being kids, cousins being cousins is all.

But, a year later at another get together we went to the park to play football, some other kids were there that we kind of knew from the neighborhood, so we all played a game together. For some resin these other kids seemed to pick out Lenny from the crowd and started picking on him a bit. One kid really gave him a shot that was uncalled for, almost a clothesline, and what happened? He had about a dozen Anthony's, Genes, and Bobby's on his azz the rest of the game. We punished him every play until he finally just left and limped home.

That's how we "Chicagoans" feel about our little cousins to the south. They get picked on by us, they will always be the "little cousin", but if youre not family and you mess with Leonard, we will pummel you into submission and make you regret it.

You'd have to be Italian or Sicilian and from the mid-west with family spread out across IL, MO, and IN to understand it I guess.

It was terrible that he got suspended. He meant for a clean check, and it had a negative effect. Terrible call Mr. Shanahan and crew.

It's not a terrible call, they actually got it right for a change. Now the bar has been set, lets see of they are consistent with suspensions for the rest of the playoffs. My money is on no, they will screw it up and certain players and teams will not be held to the same standards or suspended.

A good friend brought up a point that I can't argue with. The NHL does not want "dynasty's" anymore, they want parody. It was blatantly evident a couple years ago when the Wings played PHX. The refs and league did everything they possibly could to make sure PHX won, the Wings already had their years in the spotlight, PHX was basically owned by the league, Bettman wanted to prove PHX was a hockey market and I have never seen such blatant one sided officiating in my life. One of the least penalized, if not the least penalized, team in hockey was all of a sudden getting penalties left and right on phantom calls that no one could explain, and PHX was getting away with everything. In between periods the analysts were breaking it down and could not explain what was happening, everyone just shrugged and said , "WtF is going on here, we don't get it".

Same thing with the Kings when they won, the "rule book" was thrown out the window, they were clutching, grabbing, slashing, kneeing, elbowing, and running guys left and right and got away with almost all of it. Bettman wants hockey to be huge in CA, he needs it to succeed there, and no one can explain how they got away with all the garbage they did while other teams were getting penalties and suspended left and right for the same or less.

If you don't think the NHL wants to see series go a certain way, or some teams to win or lose, you haven't been watching the playoffs the last few years. Same with the Hawks and Bruins, you could tell who the NHL was propping up and marketing, I don't have my blinders on to it, the Hawks, Kings, and Bruuns winning is good for business, they want big market teams to succeed for the ratings. But, the Hawks have had their two Cups recently, now they want new blood and parody.

PARITY

:D

Sorry Tony, that's one of my biggest 'word' pet peeves.

And I can't say I disagree with a lot of what you mentioned.
