Of note:

Q: Is there a chance you could get football or basketball back? How would you do that?

A: The NFL deal with Panini is a long-term deal. We have a long-term deal with our Huddle app. For the NBA, Panini has a long-term deal. We feel we’re the most innovative partner out there. We’re also the oldest so we feel we’re the best. The next deal that’s up is the NHL and we’d be very interested. We already partner with our Skate app.

If UD loses their exclusive (which I can see happening), they're screwed. I'm hoping Topps gets a license, but NOT an exclusive. This hobby needs competition in order to survive.

The full Q&A is covered by Beckett - http://www.beckett.com/news/2017-topps-national-qa-live-blog/

I was told yesterday that Topps will likely have a license in 2019.

Topps Heritage! Talk to me!!

this is great news if UD loses their exclusive! but i'd also like to see Panini get back into hockey. i like what i see from their other sports cards.

either way it would be great to see another company force UD to bring back meaningful sets again not just the same Rookie crap product after product.

This would certainly mean the death of epacks. Topps Now in hockey would be something else. Bowman Chrome hockey? Yes, please.

Topps Now in hockey would be amazing. Topps Skate has used the Now concept and they look great.

Heritage, Chrome, Archives, and Stadium Club would all great to see in hockey again.

I'm giddy like a school girl just at the thought of Heritage (allegedly) coming back

I'll be honest, this is the most exciting hobby news I've heard in a while. I'd absolutely love to see Topps make hockey cards again. Please let it happen!

Boy you guys are easy to please. :D

I'm greedy. I want Allen & Ginter (this one will likely be baseball only still), Dynasty, Archives, Museum Collection, Strata, Transcendent, and yes, Heritage.

I bet if I did a Forum search how may times I went to "bat" for Topps it would be crazy.

Maybe I'll start collecting again. Like a ton. Like ripping wax like a madman because Topps is the ****!

I can wait through another 18 months of redundant UD stuff, barely touched any the last 5 or 6 years.............

If I'm not mistaken, UD's exclusive runs out NEXT summer (not in 2019).

And people, we need to tap the brakes a little here.

NO official announcement was made tonight, and if you think UD is going to let their main source of revenue be split in half WITHOUT a fight... :brow:

For all we know, they could have a handshake deal in place with the NHLPA for another 4-year exclusive...

I get that entirely (I won't speak for everyone else, but I think they see it too), but even the prospect of Topps coming back is pretty damn cool.

I'm taking a break from buying any hockey this coming year (except to flip, if that's even possible with this year's crop) as I imagine many people are, but the possibility of following up a potentially weak 2018 with the potential return of Topps seems like a really well written script. Either way, it's exciting news in a hobby that's really taken a beating the last few years.

I am a HUGE Topps fan and this is terrific for set builders. I only hope it's two limited licenses because I don't think the hockey hobby needs 50 releases.
