Interesting note from the Topps Q&A at The National

The only thing we'd have to be concerned about is people like Wayne Gretzky being UD exclusives. Gretzky signing for Topps would be HUGE.

Unless UD goes under, I don't see that happening. Aren't Lebron and Jordan still UD exclusives despite not having an NBA license in years?

I am excited about Topps getting into hockey but hopefully there is a product cap. This could totally elevate the products coming out to higher levels of quality and design

I dunno. I really soured on Topps CS years ago by some lady named Joanna. I was glad to see them leave the hockey market. Assuming she's gone, I'd welcome them back.

(For the record, it was exponentially worse than my CS experience with anyone else in the sports card industry and similar to that of Telus and/or UPS Canada)

In a perfect world UD and Topps would each have licenses and I would welcome the return of Topps Heritage and Archives so vintage memorabilia and old timer autos would once again be licensed. Frankly, Topps would really have to step up to match the popularity of Young Guns, SPA and The Cup rookies.

Absolutely, give them both equal licenses... I would love Topps to come back... I would love to see a Triple Threads and also Ginter like thegriceboys mentioned!

Archives, Archives, Archives!!! (and dare I say, Jack Eichel licensed autos some day?!?)

Sheesh, I might even pay more for an Eichel Fan Favorite autograph than I did on my Aaron Judge RC FFA!

Thank god as this hobby needs hope for it's future.

It's nice to see interest from Topps but if the NHL and NHLPA can listen to it's fans and collectors of it's brand,It cannot be an exclusive. This hobby needs competition and in the ideal world....UD,Topps,Panini and Leaf should be allow to battle it out for our hard earned dollars.

In recent years I've seen way too much negative in this hobby. It was a shame to see a lot of good people leave due to the state of the hobby in recent times.Hopefully the Topps interest is only the tip of the iceberg for REAL positive change

This agree with this in theory, but as far as execution I don't think it would work. If all four of those were granted a full license of 20 or more products, there would be about two products a week. No way there's enough hobby dollars to go around. The most we "need" is about 20 products total. Personally I would love to see 12. One product a month. No way Topps, Panini and UD would want a license to only do a handful of products.

so if topps gets the license . I'm sure there will be redemptions...... so whats there redemption process like?
Ive heard good and bad stories
do they go by beckett like ud does or do they actually pay attention to actual sales

To try to answer your question about Topps on exchanging redemptions, last week I exchanged a Topps Tribute autograph and their rep put me on hold and came back on the line and told me she had looked up the Beckett book value of the card I was exchanging and they would send me a card of equal value.

So, yes they use Beckett. The card I got in was of a last year rookie pitcher who is out for year with Tommy John surgery. So it was not something I would ever want. On a better note, the last three Topps redemptions that I had with Topps when the card arrived Topps put in an extra card and this one was a Clayton Kershaw jersey card which was better than the auto they sent.

From my experience, they FedEx everything. Even the meh cards.
When I asked for a replacement, I got a better prospect auto than the one I replaced.
When I redeemed a card that was in stock, I had it in my hands in a week. Granted, I don't have a ton of interactions with them, but I've been pleased overall.

To contrast with UD. I'm still waiting for my Tarasenko card that shipped last month. I feel like I should play "Time in a Bottle" on an endless loop :)

Yeah, the extra jersey card they toss in is a nice touch. Got a David Ortiz one the last package I got. Being a Red Sox fan, it's a nice bonus :)

With UD, the only time i asked for an exchange on a redemption i said anything Bruins. I guess they saw that i lived in Montreal so they decided to send me a card of their rival the habs :speechless:

I'm in favour of Topps getting back in just so we see a bit more variety, UD has gotten so stale as of late, same sets with the same players every year.

My best,

Ken

Have you seen some of the player selection in Topps BB sets this year? There's a fair bit of similarity going from product to product as well - whether it's in base sets or autograph selection for players in much of the sets that have been in this year's sets. The hunt for Judge has put people of that tack...

I am not a fan of the exclusive. Whilst I have built up some good relationships with the boys at UD, I do think we need to see a two horse race.

I haven't bust much of anything lately. I don't know how much that would change with Topps entering the market. I am not a fan of ePack, as I find it cheapens the experience overall for me...

I am always gonna do my flipping. Thats my shindig and of course my SPGU Supremes are gonna never go away (smile smile smile)...

ok well.. back to my kids.. cheers
