Olympic GDT - SF - Finland vs USA - Feb 26th

think this is far more than anyone expected out of the US squad but they deserve it.

I didn't think they would even be playing in the medal round, too young and too inexperienced. But, they got a bit lucky I think, won games that made it a bit of an easier road for them, so they deserve credit for being where they are. I know some refuse to give any credit where credit is due, but we are used to that. Win or lose Sunday, they have done more then I expected and I will be happy with whatever medal they come home with.

Although most people picked Sweden, Russia and Canada - why not the USA? The team is full of young NHL'ers and if we seen and learned anything at the world Juniors, it is SPEED KILLS.

Outside of the Canada game, they have not been outplayed and at no time were they ever in trouble. They ended up undefeated and are showing everyone what they are going to see on Sunday.

I personally thought the Fins would be on a role knocking off Sweden - but the USA put that to rest in 2 minutes.

The USA won their way into the final - the only undefeated team going in.

Count me as one of those people (as most of us were)

I picked my boy Lundy playing versus Malkin Ovy and Kovy.

Never would have thought the US would do this well, nor did I expect Canada to even play this well (the game vs Russia I mean). Slovakia was a surprise, but they have some decent team play, and have some world class talent for sure.

Ruutu was being Ruutu, Olli was just trying to antagonize someone into a penalty, it didnt work obviously.

Thomas is now in net for the USA, Miller was injured!!!

jk, Miller pulled to give someone else a shot in net, and give Mills some rest.

I thought going into the olympics that USA was about the 5th or 6th best team and most of that was what 4Ant4 said in that they were so young. I was hoping to give a couple teams a good run and get their feet wet and then make a run at gold in 4 years. Granted the win against Canada got them the best matchup they could have had in the Swiss but they earned it by beating Canada.
Overall they totally exceeded my expectations and gold or silver I'm proud as they have really played well.

I don't think you've ever conspired against the Canadian team (the locals here do enough of that already.) It just seems every time there's a negative comment (or backhanded compliment) posted towards the Canadian hockey team or the Canadians on the board during the GDTs, you or Tony are front and center.

I think you are confusing my neutrality toward the Canadaians Olympic team with my distaste for the Canadiens fans and management.

I could care less about the olympic games (unless the US is in it), every other game I want the underdog to win (belarus, Swiss, Slovaks...). Period.

As far as the Russia vs Canada game, I was rooting for Russia all the way to put the trash tlaking towards European hockey to rest. Its not enough that Malkin and Ovy have been the best 2 players in the game (and a Swede the best D man in the last 2 decades). For every "good job" these players get, theres a Don Cherry (or Don Cherry wannabe fan here) that sets the game back. It would be much easier for the game to appeal to more fans if the current fans werent so arrogant towards other nationalities. We need to emulate the MLB and enjoy the game itself first.

back on track, 6-1 game now, Finland is crawling back into it.....:badmood:

3 minutes to go!!!!:stanley: (wait thats not right)

and thats game, too bad the Fins didn't show up. I was hoping for a close and exciting game. Congrats to the Americans for playing a great game out there and making it to the gold medal game. Good luck to team USA.

Now time to get ready for tonight's game

Stat of the game: SOG 25-25

Miller was awesome (despite what the scores says, he made some awesome saves). And the US just did not stop the attack until it was all over (by that I mean at the start of the second period). They are all rested and ready to rumble on Sunday.

I want a Canada/US matchup again (although a part of me is scared), but I would to see Slovakia make a showing. Or at least give Canada a run for their money (tire them out please...)

I think either team thats going to face the US in the Gold medal game is in for a hand full. But either way the Gold medal game is going to be one heck of a game

Wow...Talk about a contradiction. You have distaste for us, but then preach to us about tolerance. Nice...

And with that I wish all our American brothers success in the final. Cheers guys.

Going to be a great evening watching the game: of course some Spanish red wine, some beer, some nice snacks

Go Finland!

Tatu

Olisko sulla Tatu enää yhtään alkoholia jäljellä, voisin tulla juomaan kaveriksi ?

Heeey, if they can score a goal a minute, they can tie it up.
...Bahahahaha.

Now, you're such a hilarious guy :giggity:.

Despite you, gongrats to Team US for the victory. Team US was absolutely better and deserved their win. It has been 14 years since you've been in ANY finals. I hope you'll make your best in the next game.

Miller is the Man for you and you can count on him. I'd also give $0.20 for Kane.

I hope you'll meet Team Canada again.

By ANY finals do you mean IIHF Finals - would that include World Juniors...must not cause they were just there two months ago and while they didn't have the greatest showing in Italy, we were in the finals in Salt Lake in 2002...a little confused am I.
