I just thought of something else.

With all the broohaha about the new message boards, I'm sure a lot of us forgot about something else. What a shot in the nads the Beckett Marketplace sellers got with the new format. While the Marketplace hasn't changed thus far, the absolute huge fallout and displeasure with the new site is bound to have a huge effect on the sellers. Nice of Beckett to whiz all over their legs like that.....on the plus side, it could mean more items being listed on eBay....

I wonder if Wayne (DrBailey) can shed any light on whether he's seen a change yet or a downturn in traffic?

Rob

Hell everyone. I am glad to have found this forum myself. The changes to the Beckett forums have been too drastic and extreme for my liking. It's good to find another hobby board that has a more familiar and easy to use format. I will know some of you from the Beckett boards, but look forward to meeting some new hockey fanatics like myself.

I am glad I joined here as well and know a few of the ppl on here from beckett! I am so confused trying to figure out how to work beckett right now!

I'd say you pretty much hit the nail right on the head with that post.

There have been a few big-name marketplace sellers listing their inventories over on ebay stores in the past month or so. (Usually they're pretty easy to pick out -- they're the ones with the insane prices ;) )

I'd expect the trend to continue.

I used to post religiously there, but haven't done so for years. I make the odd post, maybe twice a year so I won't miss it all.

The real point of interest for me is to see if Beckett backs down or not. I would suggest the people that made the decision to change are not the people dealing head-on with the debacle.

I really like your observation Rob, but I suspect there will be fall-out on other fronts too, but I don't pretend to know where.

Go Bruce go!!!

Ooooof. That site is a mess... hadn't logged on in quite a while, but I have to admit, when I saw all the posts here about how horrid it was in its newest incaranation, I was sure those posting were exaggerating... man, they weren't - not at all. Makes my hair hurt to even look at. It's officially jumped the shark.

Well it is a Beta-version, so we'll see if they change it. But as it stands, I won't be using that site much. Maybe I'll check back in a week and see what's happened. Glad my trades are all out from there, hopefully my stuff comes soon enough (as I am sure it will).

Watching the changes today over at Beckett was like viewing a bad accident...You don't want to rubber neck but the carnage..., you just have to look. I can not believe the amount of people taking advantage of a situation by making totally inappropriate posts . Oh well, Becketts loss is Hobby Insiders gain.

Welcome all you new folks and enjoy the best hobby site on the net :). -Mike

The new beckett is going to become a pyramid (or already has). Once the base is gone, the rest will come crashing down. Say 40% people leave, the 60% left will have less people to talk to and trade with and they will also leave.

Beckett??? What are you guys talking about???? I'm pretty sure this is the ONLY site one needs to belong......... plain and simple......... regardless of who the owner of this site is;)

GO Canucks!

The thing is, I think there are some good ideas behind some of the changes, but everything to do with the boards themselves has been entirely mishandled. The miscalculations involved in making the changes to the boards structure are truly of epic proportions. The sad reality that we should all keep in mind, is that this is bad for the hobby. Beckett is widely considered to be THE authority on everything in the hobby, and what's bad for Beckett, is in the end bad for us all as collectors, imo.
