Toronto Card Show at Leaside Gardens Sunday August 16th.

Thanks for all the people who showed up. We had another record attendance today which shows that our marketing and promotional efforts are leading to extremely desirable results. I love when dealers come up to us and tell us they had the best August in the last few years!!!!!!

Got to see a lot of happy kids and happy customers....

congrats to Leonard to busting the cup pack and landing a gretzky cup auto /99 patch!!!

The Gretz was /9!!!!!!!!! :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Congrats Lennie! You owe me one! :) I sold out of my 5 09 Cup tins. One had the Gretz /9, another had a Doughty RC /99, another a Patrick Roy auto, so not bad for 5 tins. Based on my Cup sales alone, I had my best show yet. Thanks Frank and Ameet for all your hard work.

Another great show today!
Lots of people...some of them were actually spending their hard-earned $$ on cards OTHER than that from the Cup! :)

Hobbytime...FYI, most shows in this area run from 10-3.....this TO show is the longest.....hours are fine....12-6 does not work at all....most dealers live out of town and have families.

Had another great time today, I guess that's what happens when you take cash! I missed the Gretzky patch auto, but I did see the Gretzky dual patch someone pulled from Ultimate and that was sick! Always fun to see people pull nice things from high end products =)

Hi guys, the show was sick today, and I believe i was the lucky recipient of the ultimate dual patch Gretzky being pulled, its from 08-09 Ultimate and is 06/25 and features 3 colors on one side orange/blue/white, and blue and orange on the other from an oilers jersey. I'm not very forum savvy I'll figure out how to put the image up here if you guys like, it is probably my best pull to date (and it's real haha). I also had a display case of golf cards and got some instant action as I made a large sale to an individual who was excited to see golf cards for sale. I know there is a gentlemen from the Expo named Mel who has spectacular golf cards who I have bought from, but pound for pound dollar for dollar, I have probably some of the best golf cards and the best golf cards collection than anybody in southern Ontario so come by and have a look at what I have for sale next show September 20th, Can't wait. JaY

i will try to add some pictures from the show for all to see.

thanks again guys!

let's hope the next one is just as good!! glad to see the economy is finally picking up too! can't wait to see the pix..

Again, I have to ask, because I really want to know.

I see that the show is getting bigger and bigger, which is good. I grew up on the days of the Galleria and Gerrard Square shows.

So with this show getting bigger, do you guys think you'll ever leave the Leaside Gardens for something bigger?

Or do you think that location suits everyone just fine?

Yes, let's hope the next one is just as good! Might be hard to top though. :)

Will get some pics up as soon as I can. Wish I was able to take some pics of some of those sweet pulls... I saw some of them, but wasn't bright enough to go grab my camera... maybe we can see some scans?

The goal of the show is to ALWAYS strive to get bigger, better and yet make sure we take care of our customers! our customer base are the dealers and customers alike!!

Yeah it's kind of far. Too east for me as that's why it's taken me so long to get there. Still a great show, and if most of the crowd is from the east then stick with it!

Frank,

Glad to hear your show is thriving. Since moving from T.O. there's been a big hole in my hobby activities. I really looked forward to getting my monthly fix at Leaside -- just about the only social life I could count on (with 2 little ones at home). I was back in town in July, but had to fly west the day before the show. That sucked. Next time, I'll be coordinating my schedule with the TCS.

Cheers,
Chad

:P The show is a 5-10 minute drive from Yonge & Eglinton, so as central GTA as you can get. Whether you're from the east or the west, it's... central. :)

We get people driving in from as far west as London and as far east as Kingston. Heck, last show, someone flew in from Australia... ok, ok... I'm sure they made the trip to Toronto for other reasons and we were just lucky they could drop by. :P

I completely forgot to mention a basketball fan from Croatia showed up at 2:45 pm on Sunday too....I guess he forgot about time zones and the time of our show.. but damn he travelled far!

It was a great show and the staff are great. There are many different dealers, selling a lot of different cards, from older to newer to super high end to low end. It is a great show all over!!!

How has this show branched off?

In terms of other sports? I know it's a hockey specific show, kinda like the International, but how slowly or fast has Baseball, Basketball and Football come along?

Are there dealers that set up specifically for those sports?

Is there a good selection for the other 3 sports?

Any sports card show in Canada is going to be 90%+ hockey. But the other 3 sports are well represented at our show.

But I'll stop short from being one of those show promoters that sounds like a car salesman and claim that there is a TON of everything for everyone. What I do tell people is that there is enough that makes it worth the trip if you are a baseball, football, or basketball collector.

There is always wax available and there are a few big baseball dealers. It seems that there is more football then there ever was before and there has always been a little bit of basketball. As mentioned, there's even some golf (ah, but just one dealer) and there's even some non-sports for good measure.

What is certain is that all sports are better represented compared to any of the other shows that were in existence at the time this one became established. But this show is significantly larger than the other ones so that probably just comes with the territory.

I don't think anyone could possibly suggest there isn't enough hockey so if you know of any other sports (and non-sports) dealers then send them our way.

The other sports are definitely better represented

I am a dealer who unfortunately did not setup last show. I can definitely bring in other sports at great prices but really do not know the demand for baseball, football and basketball. So that is why I only carry hockey.
