I`m not a habs fan or habs hater but to me the play didn`t warrant 5 and a game misconduct. It was a penalty make no mistake just not 5 and a game.

I think the bigger thing out of all this is Cameron threatening Mtl`s players, which is a big no no. I`m sure he won`t get fined but I bet he gets a phone call from the league and issues an apology about his remarks.

Regardless of Stone`s injury/non injury Cameron should never came out and said what he said, now if something does happen the league will have to throw the book at Ottawa because retaliation/targeting is something no sport can openly tolerate.

If I were an Ott fan i'd be more unimpressed/worried about my teams production that game.

So broken wrist for Stone... and in his place goes Chris Neil. Seems like a fair deal for a 5 and a Game...

Somehow I will not be surprised if someone decides to even the score on the Sens end, regardless of what the league does in terms of warning both teams, because no one knows what the NHL wheel of justice will stop on... particularly for one of the FACES of the league...

I have seen the play over and over and pk hardly touched him and it was a dive job by stone so where's the penalty for that? he has a bruised wrist at most and if he was seriously hurt he would not have been able to come back at all. stone was a guy i respected with his awesome play of late, but now that's all out the window. his comments after the game were not warranted either as with the comments of the coach. pk laid down a love tap if even that and stone went down like he was shot.

Stone has a microfracture in his wrist. So sad of you to have no respect for him anymore. Love taps hurt, I guess

The refs got it right. That is the rule!!! People need to stop blaming refs and start blaming the players. No puck, 2 feet away and slashed Stone from over his head. I really like Subban but he makes made choices and takes a lot of bad penalties. He got what he deserved.

Wow PK and Habs got jobbed. This is why a coach's challenge is needed. That was a 2 min slash but refs helpless to correct it.

So Stone is out, Neil is in, and Pacioretty is possibly coming back from a concussion.

Just adding fuel to the fire ... but do the Sens really mind if Neil gets a suspension?

And I'm no fan of the Canadiens or PK Subban but did they not suffer a similar fate last year when Kreider "slid" into Carey Price? Intentional or not, this is what you get in the playoffs.

Is it fair? No way.

Is it expected? Absolutely!

Winning the Stanley Cup involves pushing the envelope and "shots" happen, key players get targeted and often injured. Just the way it is.

Did Subban mean to break Stone's wrist? I don't think so. Did he intend to give Stone a "shot" for going to the front of the net? Yes, he did. And for a two-handed slash that originates from over one's head, ummmm .... ya, a 5 minute major is the correct call.

That really sucks for Stone and the sens and I hope they get their retaliation. No surprise it was Subban though, the guy is one of the biggest piles in the NHL. Cheap shotting, diving pansy.

The problem I have with it is that the puck was out at the blueline when he slashed him. That should be a consideration when they decide upon discipline. The other problem I have is that PK just can't go to the dressing room like everyone else who gets the gate.

Karma. Last year the Habs had the most goalie interference penalties as a team and Gallagher had more by himself than any TEAM. I loved listening to the Hab fans at work grumble over that so I could mention Gallagher.

I really enjoy people who refer to it as a "dive" and say Stone should be penalized.

Let's let someone of PK Subban's size and strength two hand you across the wrist with a hockey stick, and we'll see how you take it

Montreal Canadiens defenceman P.K. Subban will not be suspended for his slash on Ottawa Senators rookie forward Mark Stone during Game 1 of their first round series Wednesday night.

The news from TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun comes after Subban was assessed a five-minute major penalty and was thrown out of the game in the second period when he gave Stone a two-handed chop to his wrist during a penalty kill.

Stone immediately fell to the ice and went to the dressing room for a short time before returning to action, albeit in noticeable pain.

The Senators announced on Thursday morning that Stone has a microfracture of his right wrist and his availability for the rest of the series isn't known.

Imo the NHL should have waited to announce the Subban "no further action required" until hearing the extent of Stones injury. It looks bush league if Quintal goes and suspends PK now. Habs got lucky. PK plays the rest of the series and now Ottawa dresses Neil instead of Stone.

Without making excuses for Subban (I'm not trying to) I have to totally disagree with this.

The biggest problem with discipline in the NHL (IMO) is that they tie it to the injuries far too often. I would have no problem if they gave Subban an extra game for this one (though I'm not sure if I were running the league I would have) but that's regardless of the injury.

If the league is serious about getting dirty two-handed slashes, hits to the numbers, hits to the head (and so on) out of the game - start tossing out suspensions regardless of the injuries.


To me: Subban's slash last night was either dirty enough that he should have been suspended, or it wasn't. Stone could be forced into retirement, or not miss a single shift - that shouldn't have any bearing on it.

Stone has a microfracture in his wrist and ligament damage, wouldn't call that a dive. He's the sens top forward and is now questionable for the rest of series. The puck was 50 feet away from Stone, this was not a hockey play.

Wow, great find. A lot of similarities between the two and the penalties applied are certainly different. It's hard to deny that Subban's intent with his stick was deliberate. I'm not saying it was a deliberate intent to injure, but it was deliberate in that he used his stick to strike Stone on the forearm/wrist.

At the very least this year's playoffs got real exciting, real fast! :corn::corn:

Ottawa's hottest player, who without him wouldn't have made the playoffs, doesn't even get to play 1 full playoff game and he is done due to a completely unnecessary cheap shot. Where is the justice in this with no suspension, Montreal goes on to win the game without Subban, and Ottawa is dealt a major blow for the rest of the series. If this was Galchenyuk or Gallagher, there would be a warrant issued for the offending Sens player and people would want him thrown in jail.

The worst part of this is the league now leaves it in the players hands, and that's where really bad things tend to happen. The Sens feel wronged, they want justice for their teammate, so at some point a player like Price, Subban, Galchenyuk, etc is going to be on the receiving end of something nasty. Lets see how the Montreal fans react when it happens, not saying it's right, but this is what happens when the league allows these types of things to go unpunished.
